DPU Forces Cut in Natural Gas Bills

Last month I joined my colleagues in calling on DPU to decrease the winter energy rates which were causing great harm to constituents and local businesses. I would like to share that The Department of Public Utilities in Massachusetts has approved a decrease in natural gas bills, leading to a reduction of 4 to 5 percent for most customers starting in March. The decrease comes as a result of the dropping market prices of natural gas, causing gas companies to lower their supply rates. The change was made during the season, as opposed to the typical adjustment times in November and May. The new acting chair of the DPU, Cecile Fraser, stated that the reductions in gas supply rates will provide relief to gas customers and that the agency will continue to support families and businesses through energy efficiency and fuel assistance programs.
