As of January 1, 2022, Massachusetts health care insurers are now required to provide coverage for the treatment and diagnosis of pediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorders associated with streptococcal infections (PANDAS) and pediatric acute-onset neuropsychiatric syndrome (PANS). This includes treatment with intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) therapy for insured health plan members both in and outside of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
"This pivotal change marks the culmination of a long struggle by parents and advocates to ensure proper health care coverage for children suffering from PANDAS/PANS. I was proud to lead this effort in the Legislature and salute their efforts!" said Rep. Josh S. Cutler.
