Today I developed a new appreciation for all the hard work our firefighters do on a daily basis after participating in a Fire Ops Demonstration hosted by the Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts (PFFM). Thank you to local firefighters Pat Daley of Marshfield FD and Rob Heffernan of Hanson FD for showing me the ropes and taking me through four training rotations. The half-day training program was held on Boston Common with fellow lawmakers and included using the jaws of life to winch open a car door and trunk, trying our hand at CPR and a LUCAS automated CPR machine, and crawling through a smoke filled room wearing a face mask and air tank with a firehouse to douse a small fire. I learned a lot about all the various safety and life saving equipment our firefighters use on a daily basis. It certainly is not an easy job! Thank you to PFFM for hosting and to everyone who helped to host this training today!
